Crucifixion
This is a replica from an original Wet Plate Collodion Tintype that I created. The series is called “Gospel Tin” and represents all things that are spiritually intentional and/or represent the life of Christ and profound wisdom from the Bible. There were many hours involved in creating this piece of artwork.
This image draws from the weight and stillness of the crucifixion—where suffering, love, and redemption meet. The crown of thorns and iron nails rest in quiet tension, while the presence of blood reminds us of the cost that was paid.
Created using the historic wet plate collodion process, each mark, imperfection, and tonal shift is formed by hand—an unrepeatable interaction of light, chemistry, and time. The result is not just an image, but a physical artifact.
This work invites reflection. Not only on the brutality of the cross, but on the depth of grace that followed.
"But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed.” — Isaiah 53:5
Limited original tintypes are available in small quantities. Each is a one-of-one, entirely unique piece that cannot be duplicated.
I set up the scene, prepare an 8x10 plate with collodion, sensitize it in a silver nitrate bath, then use my 10x10” large format camera to capture it. I go into the darkroom to develop and then fix the image. It is a glorious and tedious process.
This is one of my favorite pieces and truly unique because not many of my tintypes have “color”. I subtly added the drips of blood by creating a thick, red varnish. I pray that it will bless you and cause your mind and heart to point to God every time you look at it.
*This is a re-print replica of the original tintype.
Available in 3 options:
-Smooth Fine Art Print: This is a beautifully printed image ready for framing and/or matting!
-Fine Art Standout Print: Ready to hang and sits about 1 1/2” from the wall with black edging. This is lightweight and has pre-set holes in the back that makes the artwork easy to hang. The image is edge to edge and an exquisite presentation. It has no glare with a beautiful matte finish. Ready to hang.
-Fine Art Metal Print: Metal is absolutely a stunner! If you want to experience this piece in all of it’s glory, metal is definitely a jaw-dropper! Each piece is mounted onto a 1 1/2” metallic black metal frame which makes the image “float” from the wall. Images are printed on high-quality aluminum using an innovative dye sublimation process for an impressive display that stands the test of time. Ready to hang.
Please allow 10-14 days for processing & delivery. Many times it will arrive much sooner, but allow extra time for delays.
